Christmas Lunch with Minister of Finance Marko Primorac

American Chamber of Commerce in Croatia held a Christmas lunch for distinguished members and guests, with guest speaker Mr. Marko Primorac, Minister of Finance.

“The year 2022 has seen a series of initiatives implemented to create the prerequisites for our foreign policy objectives that will help further integrate Croatia with the most developed countries in the world. This will increase the economic standard and standard of living of Croatian citizens, as well as provide additional stability and facilitate operations of the business sector. Although 2023 will be a challenging and unpredictable year, I am certain it will provide new opportunities for the business sector. Our economy today is stronger and more resilient than before, and the joint efforts and the framework created by being a member of the euro area, entering the Schengen area and signing the Double Taxation Treaty between the Republic of Croatia and the United States will give an additional boost to its further development,” highlighted Minister Primorac in his speech.

“2023 will undoubtedly be a very demanding year but we have confidence in the authorities they will successfully manage all the challenges ahead and circumvent all the obstacles that might affect stability of the economy. We must stress that for all the businesses, including ours, stability and predictability are key,” pointed out Andrei Poliakov, JTI Country Manager Croatia & Slovenia.

Andrea Doko Jelušić, Executive Director of AmCham, added that 2022 was as challenging a year for business as the previous two years. COVID-19, earthquakes, disturbances in supply chains, lack of workforce, Russian aggression against Ukraine, energy crisis, and inflation... the economy has truly been faced with many challenges. Still, there is good news – like entering the Eurozone, the Schengen area, and signing the Double Taxation Treaty, which AmCham members undoubtedly welcome. The private sector’s wishes in the year ahead (in the purview of Minister Primorac’s department) are certainty, predictability, further reduction of the tax burden on salaries, and option plans for limited liability companies, concluded Doko Jelušić.

The event was attended by more than 190 people from the public and private sectors alike.
