Press Release - Treatment outcomes (quality) registries topic of AmCham's meeting with minister Beroš

AmCham's position paper „Treatment Outcomes (Quality) Registries“ was, amongst others, one of the topic of the meeting of the AmCham representatives with Minister of Health Mr. Vili Beroš.

“Healthcare systems that strive for quality and cost-effectiveness are focused on the quality of patient treatment outcomes, and data on treatment outcomes represent a basis for making informed decisions about investing budgetary resources intended for healthcare into the most efficient and effective medicinal products, devices, and equipment”, said Andrea Doko Jelušić, Executive Director of AmCham Croatia at the meeting of AmCham representatives with the Minister of Health Vili Beroš. “The introduction of mandatory registers of quality of treatment outcomes will increase the quality of life, reduce the mortality and disability rates, and have a positive impact on the healthcare system and the national budget. In addition, registers of quality simultaneously represent an exceptional opportunity for a rapid development of certain areas of Croatian medical profession”, Doko Jelušić added.

Experiences from Sweden have shown that the benefits of registers of quality are far-reaching because they represent an invaluable tool for improving clinical practice and the quality of patient treatment outcomes – namely, their introduction bring direct benefits to patients’ health and an efficient consumption related to healthcare.

AmCham welcomes the efforts of the Ministry of Health to introduce the registers of quality and encourages their introduction to be made as soon as possible in order to achieve a significant progress in the quality of treatment of diseases that are the biggest burden and the leading causes of death in the country, such as ischemic heart disease, cerebrovascular disease, lung and colon cancer, and diabetes.

The meeting also discussed public procurement in healthcare, the digitalization of business activities of the Croatian Institute of Public Health (i.e. the method for the submission of documentation related to the inclusion of medicinal products in the list of medicinal products of the Croatian Health Insurance Fund), and the growing debt to wholesale companies.
