Croatian Post reduced CO2 emissions by 18% in one year

On the occasion of Earth Day, the 2024 sustainability performance results were published.

In 2024, Croatian Post reduced total greenhouse gas emissions by 11,600 tonnes, or 18% compared to 2023, continuing a positive trend across most emission categories. This was achieved through the electrification of its vehicle fleet, energy-efficient buildings, and optimized logistics processes.

At the same time, Croatian Post’s business activities grew, meaning the company is polluting less despite handling a higher volume of work.

Thanks to the use of electric vehicles, bicycles, and deliveries in pedestrian zones, postal workers covered 14.5 million "green kilometers" last year—accounting for nearly 30% of the total 53.1 million kilometers traveled. That marks an increase of 9.3 million green kilometers compared to 2023. A key factor in the ongoing reduction of CO2 emissions is the company’s fleet of around 400 electric delivery vehicles—the largest green vehicle fleet in Croatia.

This year, Croatian Post plans to purchase additional electric vehicles and has already launched an eco-driving project. As part of this initiative, about 60 trainers are educating 2,200 drivers on environmentally friendly and energy-efficient driving practices. So far, 30% of drivers have completed the training, and the first results are already showing—fuel consumption has decreased by an average of 11%, directly contributing to reduced CO2 emissions and improved efficiency.

Croatian Post is committed to achieving net-zero carbon emissions by 2040 through its participation in The Climate Pledge, an international, cross-sector initiative of companies and organizations. It also takes part in the Sustainability Measurement and Management System (SMMS) program led by the International Post Corporation (IPC), which aims to reduce carbon emissions by 50% compared to 2019 levels, and to have at least 50% of its fleet running on alternative fuels—25% of which electric—by 2030.

These ambitious goals are vital contributions in the global fight to preserve our planet for future generations.
