Project ‘Women in Technology’ - a Platform to Foster Excellence

The development of technology and digitalization permeates every aspect of our society, defining the way we live. Digitalization has rapidly transformed all industries, including healthcare, and healthcare and IT have become fundamental themes that continue to shape our future.

The share of women in the digital sector of the European Union and Croatia has not changed significantly in recent years. According to the European Commission, the GDP of the EU economy could increase by € 16 billion a year if there were more women in the digital sector. To accelerate these trends, the Digital Health Association wants to motivate and support women in their professional career development and raise awareness of the growing number of women who have leadership roles in health and IT.

Through the project 'Women in Technology', the goal is to create a platform for recognizing, encouraging, rewarding and promoting excellence, exchanging knowledge and experiences of women, who work in the field of digital health, but also in other areas. One of the main focuses is to provide additional education to female students and to connect the health and IT industry with female students.

This was one of the main goals of the "Women in Technology" meetup held on September 7 in the creative ambience of the Wespa Spaces space in Zagreb, where industry representatives and students gathered to exchange opinions and ideas.

At the meeting, the basic ideas and concept of the project were presented by the President of the Digital Health Association Andrea Staničić and Mladen Kovaček, Vice President of the Association and founder of the company HIT konferencija. Representatives of the IT industry Snježana Bahtijari and Karlo Guštin from the largest Croatian ICT company Ericsson Nikola Tesla spoke about the importance of ICT for people's lives, business and the environment, as well as about the processes of digital transformation. Ivona Čulo, a long-term media worker, senior lecturer at the University of the North and director of Mixer.hr, presented the importance of personal branding in the digital environment, referring to the importance of personal branding and the use of technology in their own promotion. Also, on behalf of AmCham Croatia, partner of the project, Jasna Stilinović, Head of Relations with Members, presented the plan of activities in the health committee and presented the possibilities of joint cooperation between students and the chamber.

In addition to informal socializing, the participants shared their experiences, and students gave their views on the possibilities of cooperation with the IT industry. They jointly agreed that the first in a series of meetups held confirmed the importance of this initiative and agreed on further steps in achieving the set goals.
