AmCham Talents - Transforming Legacy Industries

The third lecture of this year’s AmCham Talents 2026 program brought participants together with Dario Bodulica, President of the Management Board of Carlsberg Croatia Group, who shared insights into how traditional industries adapt to a world that is changing faster, more deeply, and on multiple levels at once.

The lecture opened a number of questions that are especially relevant for young professionals and future leaders: why industries transform, what is shaping today’s market environment, and how leaders can remain relevant in a time marked by shifting consumer habits, digitalization, global uncertainty, and rising sustainability demands.

Using Carlsberg as an example, participants had the opportunity to see that the transformation of a traditional company does not mean abandoning its identity, but rather continuously adapting it to new circumstances over time. By tracing the development of the Carlsberg Group - from the founding of the brewery in 1847 to its current position as one of the world’s leading brewing companies - Dario Bodulica showed that change is not a one-off project, but an integral part of long-term relevance.

Particular attention was given to the trends that are currently having a strong impact on the beverage industry and the wider business environment: shifts in consumer behavior, the growing importance of health and moderation, the acceleration of trend cycles, and the pressures of inflation and sustainability. Participants thus gained insight into how global and local trends directly shape products, growth strategies, and the way companies redefine their value proposition in the market.

A central part of the lecture was also devoted to the role of leaders in such an environment. Dario Bodulica emphasized that modern leadership requires the ability to manage short-term challenges, prepare for mid-term change, and think about long-term direction - all at the same time. Alongside adaptability, he highlighted curiosity, continuous learning, discipline, consistency, and leading with empathy as key elements of effective leadership in uncertain times.

The lecture offered valuable perspective on how large and traditional industries stay relevant in times of profound change, while also reminding participants that transformation is not only a matter of strategy, but also of mindset. For the participants of the AmCham Talents program, it was another important opportunity to learn directly from a leader who demonstrates how resilience, innovation, and clarity of direction translate into long-term business success.
