Foreign Investments in Croatia: New Legal Framework and Risks

This seminar provides an overview of the Foreign Investment Screening Act and offers practical guidance on managing investments in strategic sectors. Ana Mihaljević, an attorney, will lead it.

The seminar provides a detailed overview of the Foreign Investment Screening Act in the Republic of Croatia, including:

  • the legal framework and purpose of the Act;
  • the impact of the Act to strategic sectors;
  • explanation of key concepts: foreign investor, foreign investment, and obligated party;
  • obligations of the Act’s addressees;
  • the approval process for foreign investments and assessment criteria;
  • common challenges and legal risks;
  • practical recommendations for preparation;
  • case studies (national and comparative) and the latest legal interpretations.

The goal of the seminar is to enable participants to understand regulatory requirements, effectively manage risks, and optimize the decision-making process regarding foreign investments.

Speaker:

Ana Mihaljević is an attorney in cooperation with Schönherr Rechtsanwälte GmbH, specializing in competition law, EU law, and foreign trade. Ana provides a wide range of compliance services to both domestic and international clients and is praised for her strong legal expertise and well-developed project management skills. She has participated in numerous complex projects, including acquisitions subject to extensive regulatory approval procedures.

Throughout her career, she has developed and implemented comprehensive compliance programs, conducted internal investigations, and represented clients before the competent authorities. Thanks to her hands-on experience in managing demanding projects and transactions, Ana helps organizations identify and effectively navigate regulatory risks while making informed and sustainable business decisions.

After obtaining her law degree from the University of Zagreb, Faculty of Law, she further advanced her education through a prestigious postgraduate program, obtaining a masters degree in EU Competition Law from King’s College London.
