Meeting of science and economy: Research and development projects

AmCham Croatia in cooperation with the Faculty of Science and Mathematics of the University of Zagreb, Scientific Center of Excellence QuantiXLie organized the event "Meeting of Science and Business: Research and Development Projects".

Industry and science are important partners in the business world. The results of this cooperation are new products, processes and services that improve people's lives.

An excellent platform for the cooperation of these two groups is research and development (R&D) projects. Corporations around the world are aware that scientific research creates tangible benefits for society as a whole and recognize it as a key driver of innovation in their own work.

The aim of this event is to encourage cooperation between the business and scientific sectors in Zagreb and the surrounding area, with a focus on the cooperation of physicists and mathematicians from the University of Zagreb, the Ruđer Bošković Institute and the Institute of Physics within the framework of R&D projects.

There are a number of internationally recognized scientific groups at Zagreb University and institutes, whose knowledge has been built up over the years based on funding mainly from the public sector, that is, the budget of the Republic of Croatia and EU projects (ERC, Horizon Europe, EU structural funds, etc.).

On the other hand, near the university, a number of companies in the IT sector or businesses closely related to the fields of physics and mathematics are developing and/or operating successfully on world markets. We believe that there is potential for both parties to profit by strengthening cooperation on R&D projects. In light of the announcements related to the financing of R&D projects from EU funds, i.e. within the Horizon Europe program and other sources of funding for R&D projects, right now is the right time to encourage this cooperation.

In the background of the success of an industry or a scientific group, there are prominent individuals who, with vision and persistent work, create innovations, products and services, and attract financial resources for research. The aim of this event is to increase the number of people from both sides who have the potential and interest in cooperation on R&D projects, to discuss the motivation of both sides for cooperation in order to clarify the expectations of the business and scientific world, potential modalities of cooperation (especially within the scope of the mentioned potential sources of funding for R&D projects ), and potential obstacles that may arise and solutions for them.
