AmCham Croatia strongly opposes the proposed amendments to the Windfall Tax Act, warning that the introduction of a retroactive tax on companies outside the energy sector contradicts EU recommendations and undermines Croatia's tax predictability and investment climate. While understanding the rationale behind regulating energy prices, AmCham stresses that applying such a tax to all sectors—especially during a year marked by inflation, rising costs, and euro adoption—would unfairly burden businesses, hinder wage growth, reduce consumption, and harm economic activity. The proposal also raises constitutional concerns and risks penalizing successful companies that contribute significantly to GDP growth.
