Women in Healthcare Forum 2026
The first Women in Healthcare Forum was held in Zagreb, bringing together professionals from healthcare, science, and industry to discuss women's leadership, career advancement, and women's health. Although women account for nearly 70% of the global healthcare workforce, they hold only around 25% of leadership positions.
The Forum presented findings from a study involving 206 Croatian oncology professionals, revealing that 56% of women reported having fewer professional opportunities due to their gender, compared with just 2% of men. Discussions addressed the challenges of balancing professional and personal responsibilities, the importance of mentorship and equal career opportunities, and the role of organizational culture in supporting women's leadership.
A dedicated part of the program focused on women's health, particularly migraine, highlighting the importance of early diagnosis and treatment. According to research by the WifOR Institute, migraine-related productivity losses in Croatia amount to 1.31% of GDP.
One of the Forum's highlights was the presentation of the first Women in Healthcare Impact Award to Dr. Mirela Bušić in recognition of her outstanding contribution to the development of Croatia's organ donation and transplantation system. The Forum emphasized the importance of equal opportunities, professional development, and improving healthcare for women.
